Have you noticed that it’s almost too easy to live a life in the fast lane these days?
As women have fairly full lives, I’ve noticed that many of us get so focused on moving ahead and pushing towards an outcome that we often don’t stop to celebrate until something has been achieved.
Like there is this socially accepted idea that we must keep on keeping on, and dare not loose our bundle along the way. That it’s better to push until near breaking point, even when we know that by doing so we can get sick, run-down and sometimes – at its worst – create irreparable damage to our bodies, minds and even our relationships with others.
Does this habit / pattern of living apply to you? Why do you hold it altogether and stop only after arriving at the end point?
So many people talk about enjoying the journey, but have you ever wondered WHY this is so important?
I believe it is because at our core we are humans BEING not just humans DOING. Yet that is often what our days consist of when we don’t attempt to change it … lots of doing. Over and over again, day after day of checklists, chores, projects or just getting through the week one day of doing to the next one.
So what would happen if instead, we took time to celebrate, learn and connect with wherever things are now? Would something else become more important than just arriving at the destination?
I think so.
Imagine how life would be if you could stop rushing towards the destination and instead began to really FEEL + RELISH more of the journey as it unfolds. Without it ever needing to be right, but just what is.
Regardless of where your life is at right now, easy or hard, fun or frustrating, you can give yourself permission to stop and pause. And that is what self-care is really all about.
When we decide to create deliberate moments to pause, turning within to really FEEL where things are now, we allow our deepest feelings to be our biggest teacher. Instead of waiting until burnout to realise what we already knew – that we pushed too hard, went too fast, or took on too much and have gotten off track in some way.
Self-care is about being brave enough to stop, breathe, reconnect and then to move forward in an even more integrated and aligned way. Instead of sliding across the finish line panting with fatigue, or even ending up in a crash and burn scenario.
Ask yourself now – what is stopping you from creating a moment to stop and regroup?
Is it that you think you don’t want to stop, incase the whole system comes crashing down and doesn’t want to start up again? Or maybe you didn’t realise how easy it can be to just push through because you have been doing it for such a long time that it seems natural now.
Give yourself permission to PAUSE.
Instead of waiting until completion, are you ready to do something different and dive more deeply into your present? To be here and now and appreciate more?
To fully give yourself permission to get off the train for a moment or a day and pause to reconnect with you. For if you choose to, you may even be surprised to find that life can have more bliss, more joy and how you can move forward with less effort than before. Because you are being even more true to yourself.
I encourage you to think about how you can create a little pause for downtime today, this week or this month, so you can refocus and regroup yourself. This could be through simple acts of self-care, or by making a bigger commitment – whatever you feel called to do is fine.
I have found for me the past weeks the oils I have called on or chosen have been the oils of grounding … yes the ones that bring me back into me.
Rose – it’s just like smelling the most beautiful red lush plump petals of delight that you can find.
Vetiver – Earthy, quite like a sweet enticing mud like quality that has you coming back for more .. why because it’s so grounding.
Sandalwood – Sweet, Earthy, Paper Bark powdered goodness, with a hint of gypsy vibe. The feeling I get from Sandalwood is like a hug around a campfire with a bunch of awesome peeps knowing my heart! Sacred Devotion.
Are you a lover of the essential devotion or are you new to knowing the power they hold ?
Whatever it is you use or you do, begin to celebrate each stage of your journey through more simple acts of self-care and self-awareness. And above all, give yourself permission to PAUSE and enjoy where you are now.
